Maciej Franz, dr hab. prof. UAM – urodzony w 1969 roku, w Toruniu, syn oficera lotnictwa Wojska Polskiego – absolwent Uniwersytetu im. A. Mickiewicza w Poznaniu – nauczyciel akademicki od zawsze związany z Uniwersytetem im. A. Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, od 2017 roku kierownik Zakładu Historii Wojskowej Instytutu Historii UAM w Poznaniu, zatrudniony na uczelni od 1999 roku -w latach 2007-2012 profesor w Instytucie Historii Akademii Marynarki Wojennej im. Bohaterów Westerplatte w Gdyni – historyk wojskowości, zajmujący się dziejami wojen morskich, historią wojskowości nowożytnej XVI-XVII wieku, głównie wojskowością kozacką, oraz historią historiografii – autor ponad 300 opracowań naukowych i popularno-naukowych, w tym ponad 20 książek – kreator i kierownik konferencji wolińskich, towarzyszących Festiwalom Słowian i Wikingów na Wolinie – członek Polskiego Towarzystwa Historyczne, Stowarzyszenia Historyków Wojskowości w Polsce – promotor doktorów, magistrów i licencjatów – prowadził badania naukowe w zespołach archiwalnych i muzealnych Polski, Rosji, Ukrainy, Czech, Włoch, Niemiec, Francji
